It's that time of year again - New Year, New You, #amiright? The time of year when we're all frantically trying to start fresh and LIVE OUR BEST LIVES like it's going out of style. (It and everyone else will be over it in about a week. But that's another post!)

If you're an artist or an entrepreneur, then I bet one of your goals was take your social media game to the next level - start with a strategy, post super regularly, engage with your audience, figure out the metrics. I see you boo. <3 So now we're two weeks into January, the glow is's that goal coming?

I've been hearing from a lot of my creatives that they're getting frustrated. They're not sure where to start when it comes to strategy, because, well...what the f*** am I supposed to post every dang day of the week? In other words, they're stumped for content.

If this sounds familiar, don't worry - your friendly neighborhood brand-icorn is here to help!

On a sheet of paper, write down your 2-3 main "personas." In other words, what are the various versions of you that most people know or for which you're trying to build recognition? For example, most people know me in one of three capacities (with lots of overlap):

  1. Whole Life Coach
  2. Unicorn / Fairy Godmother
  3. Brand Maven

Depending on what you do, you might choose from: what you do at work, what you do because you're passionate about it, how your friends/family/colleagues see you, what you're known for.

Write each "persona" name at the top of column. Start with the first one. What is that persona passionate about? Social justice? Ceramic cookware? Puppies? Haute couture? List that shit! Next, list the stuff/topics/people/ideas that inspire that persona. Do your best to list things specific to that side of you (that persona), rather than just things you like. Lastly, write down what makes that persona happy. Don't take this too seriously - just ideate! I did a quick brainstorm (above) to show you what I'm talking about.

Repeat for each persona, then proceed to step three.

Choose your five favorite ideas from each list. Start with the first. Create a mind map as a way to brainstorm ideas for content related to the central word or phrase. If you're not sure what mind-mapping is, you can learn more about this SUPER helpful approach to ideation here.  Basically, it looks like this:

Repeat this for each of your top 5 ideas under each persona. Check it out! You now have hundreds of ideas for content about which you can write, find great quotes, interview people about, record video, post on your blog, etc. TAH-DAH!!!

Wasn't that easy? ;-)

Now go forth and kick that New Year's Resolution in it's a**. This isn't about that. This is about creating your passionate life from the ground up. Building your brand on social media is one of the most powerful ways to get the word out, and this is a fast and easy place to start.

You got this!
